Azimu – Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2025-10-05
Overview
Azimu builds a private, continuous timeline of your movement. The app is designed to process data on your device by default, minimizing network use and battery impact. We do not sell your data.
This Policy explains what data Azimu processes, why, where it is stored, how long we keep it, your choices, and your rights. It applies to the Azimu iOS app and any optional services we provide in the future.

Data at a glance
| Category | Examples | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Location | GPS coordinates, course, speed; background updates | Draw gap-free routes, detect trips and stops | Stored on device until you delete in-app data or uninstall |
| Motion Activity | Walk/run/cycle/vehicle classifications; motion events | Reduce GPS usage; improve accuracy of the timeline | On device only |
| Diagnostics | Crash logs, performance metrics provided by Apple/TestFlight | Stability and debugging | Per Apple’s policies; we do not link to identity |
| Optional Media | Route snapshots you choose to export to Photos/Files | Sharing or personal record-keeping | Saved where you export it; not uploaded to our servers |
Map tiles. Azimu may download base map tiles from a provider (e.g., [maplibre]) to render maps. Standard network logs (e.g., IP address) may be processed by that provider under their policy. Azimu does not send your timeline data to them.
What we process and why
Location (including background)
- Why: create continuous routes; detect trips and stops; show your day on a timeline.
- How: collected with your permission (“Allow Once”, “While Using”, or “Always”). You can change this anytime in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services.
Motion Activity
- Why: classify walking, running, cycling, or driving; wake the app opportunistically to save battery.
- How: processed on device via iOS motion frameworks with your permission.
Diagnostics
- Why: improve reliability and performance.
- How: crash logs may be provided by Apple or TestFlight if you opt in to share them with developers. We do not receive your contacts, messages, or other device content through these logs.
Photos & Files (optional)
- Why: when you choose to export a route snapshot or video to your library or files.
- How: requires your permission. Azimu writes only the items you select.
Where your data lives
- On device by default. Your timeline data is stored locally on your iPhone.
- No routine uploads to our servers. If we later add an optional cloud backup/sync, we will ask for consent and update this Policy before any upload occurs.
Sharing & disclosures
We do not sell personal data. We share data only in these cases:
- Service providers processing data on our behalf (e.g., crash analytics) under confidentiality and data-processing terms.
- Legal compliance when required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
- With your direction (e.g., when you export a snapshot to Photos/Files or share it elsewhere).
Your choices
- Change permissions anytime in iOS Settings (Location, Motion, Photos).
- Delete data inside the app (where provided) or uninstall Azimu to remove local data.
- Limit background activity by choosing “While Using the App” or disabling background location.
Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK)
- Consent – for background location, motion activity, and notifications.
- Performance of a contract – to provide core app features you request.
- Legitimate interests – app security, crash prevention, and fraud/error detection.
- Legal obligation – to comply with applicable laws.
Your privacy rights
EEA/UK residents
You may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. You can withdraw consent at any time. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
California residents (CPRA)
You have the rights to know/access, delete, correct, limit certain uses of sensitive data, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. Azimu does not “sell” or “share” personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

International transfers
If we use service providers outside your country, we will rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) to protect your information, consistent with applicable law.
Security

Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as features evolve. We will change the “Last updated” date and, when appropriate, provide additional notice in the app.
